BINTULU: Peniaga gerai milik Perbadanan Pembangunan Ekonomi Sarawak (SEDC) di Kubah Ria, Kuching akan diarah mengosongkannya (gerai) jika tiga bulan sewa tidak dibayar.

Pengerusi SEDC Datuk Talib Zulpilip berkata pihaknya tidak akan teragak-agak berbuat demikian memandangkan ramai yang berminat untuk berniaga di kawasan yang baru dibuka pada September lepas.

"Ramai yang kini diletakkan dalam senarai menunggu. Jika peniaga sedia ada enggan membayar sewa, kita akan arah mengosongkan gerai dan menggantikannya dengan peniaga dalam senarai.

"Mereka yang menunggu juga akan marah kerana gerai tidak bayar sewa terus diberi ruang berniaga," katanya ditemui pada majlis perasmian Konvensyen Modal Insan Peringkat Luar Bandar di Kuala Tatau, dekat sini semalam.

Former Iban tracker is sick in his longhouse
  

FIFTY nine years ago Jepit Anak Malong, 72, with other Iban trackers fought to defend the nation, but now the army veteran is fighting for his own life.

Jepit who served in the British Army between 1951 to 1952 is sick at his longhouse Rumah Panjang Pelasok, Skrang in Sri Aman Division and badly needs financial assistance.

He needs a wheel chair to move around as he is paralysed due to stroke.

Life is really hard for him and his blind wife, Kemban Anak Renang, 60.

They have no other income except receiving RM70 monthly allowance from the Jabatan Hal Ehwal Veteran Angkatan Tentara Malaysia.

Jepit who is also suffering from other sicknesses - hepatitis and high blood pressure, alleged that he has been denied welfare assistance from the government.

Is The Rental Rate Too High???

Why can't SEDC reduce the rate?

Some of the comments on the high rental rate charged by SEDC:

(a) Anonymous commented in "Is SEDC still helping the Bumiputeras?"

Pasal gerai baru di Kubah Ria. Dolok bila pecah tanah pihak SEDC kata sewa gerai sik mahal, sekitar RM250 - RM300sebulan ajak. Nak tolong bumiputera. 

Tapi apabila dah siap tok, cuba kitak tanya dengan sidak yang berniaga di sia

Lain pula sewanya dengan sewa yang mahal disekitar RM350 - RM450/RM700 sebulan. Maacam ney nak nolong bumiputera. macam nak bunoh orang jak. 

Cuba fikir sikit, mun nak nulong orang sewanya mesti munasabah dengan keadaan adakah di sia kuat laku ka sik. Jangan fikir macam ney nak ngambil balit modal molah gerai baru ajak. Nak nama nulong tok sik perlu fikir keuntungan gilak.

KOTA KINABALU: Autonomy will be granted to Sabah when Pakatan Rakyat comes to power, the top leaders of the opposition coalition promised yesterday, the eve of Malaysia Day.

BINTULU: Seven more bodies of persons who drowned when an express boat they were travelling in sank in Sungai Kakus, Ulu Tatau on Monday were found yesterday bringing the death toll to 13.

These included five who were reported missing on Tuesday.

Of late, the political scene has become dirtier and messy. It is undeniable that we need to usher in a new era of responsible and accountable politics and leadership. But post 2008, we have seen a greater use and manipulation of race and religion by politicians and political parties to advance their interest.

Elected representatives have shown their true colour too. A host of them had betrayed the trust and mandate of the people by deserting their political platform. Their action had caused a collapsed of a democratically elected government and made elected representatives as pawns which can be bought over at the right price. This had worsened corruption and democratic reform in the country.

KUALA LUMPUR: Sabah and Sarawak have been “marginalised” in Budget 2011 despite bigger contributions to the government's coffers than its counterparts in the peninsula.

Tony Pua, DAP national publicity secretary, said that from the projects outlined, the peninsula is “by far the biggest beneficiary, with Sabah and Sarawak the biggest losers”.

WHEN I first arrived at Kuching airport in May 1983, I was ushered into the row for foreigners at the immigration checkpoint where my Malaysian passport was examined and stamped “Social Visit”, with an expiry date.

I felt like an “alien” despite knowing full well that Sarawak was part of the Federation of Malaysia. My feelings of alienness were, however, short-lived, quickly overcome by the friendliness and warmth of the locals I encountered.

We can't trust politicians from BN and PR???

I do not hide my disappointment and disgust with Malaysian politicians and Malaysian politics.

I feel we can no longer trust politicians from both sides of the political divide.

It may be time to take back power from the politicians and give it to the people.

But how do we do that? I don’t know.

Sarawak PKR chairman Baru Bian said stern action must be taken against timber companies and loggers who are polluting rivers and water catchment areas that are vital water sources for the natives.

Transport at standstill as debris clog rivers

KAPIT: Riverine transport here came to a standstill yesterday as a massive amount of dead wood, sawn timber and other debris clogged the Baleh and Rajang rivers from 7am.

NO WAY THROUGH: Driftwood in the river makes it impossible for boats to travel.

Malaysia is 47 years old through the unification of Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore in 1963. (Singapore was separated from Malaysia in 1965.)

The Kuala Lumpur-Kota Kinabalu-Kuching relationship must be relooked because of the imbalance between the centre and the periphery.
