KUCHING: The problems faced by villagers in Tupon area regarding their native customary rights (NCR) land titles were solved yesterday with the issuance of land titles by their elected representative Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman.

Some 600 villagers smiled on receiving the green slips. They were from Kampung Gita Tengah, Kampung Gita Laut, Kampung Gita Lama, Kampung Gita Baru, Kampung Tupong Ulu, Kampung Tupong Tengah, Kampung Tupong Batu, Kampung Sinjan, Kampung Tanjong, Kampung Sungai Bedil and Kampung Lintang.

Daud said all procedures - even if lengthy - must be followed to ensure no hitch in getting their land titles.

"The last batch of land titles received their titles in 2001, but we must remember that the process then was different from today's. Proper measurement must be taken so that no party was given the short end of the deal," Daud said at a handover ceremony here yesterday.

In the High Court in Sabah and Sarawak at Kuching today, Justice Datuk Linton Albert found in favour of Mohamad Rambli bin Kawi (“the Plaintiff”) to have acquired native customary rights over 65 parcels of land in Salak Land District, Kuching, Sarawak.

The Plaintiff’s legal counsel, Mr. Baru Bian, stated the decision as being very significant as it declares once again that the Malays are also accorded with native customary rights premised upon custom or adat, which is in accordance with the Sarawak Land Code. This is a victory to the natives of Sarawak who have been fighting for the further recognition of their rights over native customary land since the landmark case of Nor Anak Nyawai.

Tidak mudah dapat geran tanah NCR di Sarawak

SIBU: Pengumuman Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak supaya kerajaan mempertimbangkan kemungkinan untuk mengeluarkan geran tanah kepada penduduk di luar bandar dalam Rancangan Malaysia Kesepuluh (RMK-10 ) sudah tentu melegakan pemilik Tanah Adat (NCR).

Apatah lagi apabila Perdana Menteri mengkhususkan pengumuman itu kepada penduduk-penduduk di luar bandar yang membabitkan Sabah dan Sarawak.

Difahamkan Sarawak mempunyai 1.5 juta ekar tanah yang diketagorikan sebagai NCR.
