NEWS FLASH - Norliah as Temenggong

An elder sister to the Tanjung Manis Member of Parliament Datuk Norah Tun Rahman, Norliah Tun Rahman, is to be appointed as a Temenggong for the Malay / Melanau community in the Mukah Division.

Her name is being considered for the post after she rejected an overture by the Semop assemblyman Dato Sri Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar, who is also the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker, to be the Barisan Nasional / Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) candidate in  the Semop constituency in the next state election.

In Sarawak, the post of Temenggong represents a certain race at the divisional level - and it is the highest post in the local administration hierarchy and followed by Pemanca in the district level, Penghulu and Ketua Kaum.

MIRI: Speaker Dewan Undangan Negeri Sarawak Dato Sri Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar berhasrat untuk mengucapkan selamat tinggal kepada para pengundi di kawasan Dewan Undangan Negeri Semop.

Ucapan selamat tinggal dan juga terima kasih atas sokongan selama ini yang telah mengangkat taraf hidup beliau menjadi mewah.

Sebagai hadiah perpisahan Dato Sri Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar bercadang untuk 'menghadiahkan' Norlia Tun Rahman, iaitu kakak kepada Ahli Parlimen Tanjung Manis Datuk Norah Tun Abdul Rahman, kepada para pengundi sebagai pengganti beliau di Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) Semop.
