Karim Hamzah rising star of sarawak politics

Yang Berhormat Abdul Karim Bin Rahman Hamzah looks to be the rising star of sarawak politics.  He has been given not one but 2 portfolios.  Under the tutelage of PBB Deputy President and contender for CM Yang Berhormat Datuk Amar Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Bin Tun Openg in the Housing Ministry.  Karim firmly plants his support for johari in the now 4 cornered race for the next CM (next article will reveal the new lady contender for CM lobbying hard with putrajaya).

Karim has leapfrogged both YB Abdul Rahman Junaidi and YB Roland Sagah.  YB Roland Sagah was elected in 1996 (before Karim) and YB Abdul Rahman Junaidi was elected in 2001 same as Karim.  Such promotion shows that he is highly favoured and is the rising star of sarawak politics.

Karim is also now more than assured of moving YB Datuk Fadilah Yusuf out as PBB Youth Chief.  His second portfolio of Youth signals that karim has leadership blessing to replace fadilah yusuf as PBB Youth Chief.  Fadilah Yusuf refused to defend Pehin Sri Taib Mahmud when Pehin Sri was attacked by UMNO Youth Chief Khairy Jamaludin after the sarawak state election.  Everyone in the party leadership and grassroots were disappointed with fadilah yusuf as it is expected that a party youth chief must defend his party president.

KUCHING: The state cabinet reshuffle that will take effect on Friday will see a new ministry being created, five ministries renamed and seven new faces including a woman to be appointed as assistant ministers.
Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud said the new ministry would be named the Welfare, Women and Family Development Ministry, to be headed by Fatimah Abdullah and assisted by two new assistant ministers who are also new faces, Rosey Yunus and Robert Lawson Chuat Vincent.
“The other new faces as assistant ministers are Julaihi Narawi, Abdul Karim Hamzah, Len Talif Salleh, Dr Jerip Susil and Liwan Lagang,” he said, adding that the seven would be sworn in on Friday.
Julaihi will be appointed as Industrial Development Assistant Minister (Investment and Promotion) and Rural Development Assistant Minister, and Abdul Karim as Housing Assistant Minister and Social Development Assistant Minister (Youth Development).
Len Talif will be appointed as Resource Planning and Environment Assistant Minister (Environment) and Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Technical Education Promotion), Dr Jerip as Local Government and Community Development Assistant Minister (Public Health), and Liwan as Social Development Assistant Minister (Culture and Heritage).
“All the full ministers will be retained and some of their ministries renamed,” Taib said.
The five ministries renamed include the Social Development and Urbanisation Ministry, which is now known as Social Development Ministry and headed by Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) president William Mawan Ikom and Environment and Public Health Ministry, now known as Local Government and Community Development Ministry, headed by Sarawak United People’s Party deputy secretary-general Wong Soon Koh.
‘Not a big issue’
The Planning and Resource Management Ministry will be known as Resource Planning and Environment Ministry, Housing and Urban Development Ministry as Housing Ministry, and Tourism and Heritage Ministry as Tourism Ministry, with both the ministries under the purview of Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy president.
Taib, who retains his portfolios in the Finance Ministry and Resource Planning and Environment Ministry, said there was no urgent need for the appointment of a second Deputy Chief Minister.
He said the one Deputy Chief Minister post now held by another PBB deputy president, Alfred Jabu Numpang, who is also Rural Development Minister, should not be a big issue.
He said Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Dr James Jemut Masing, who had been retained as Land Development Minister, would also be holding senior minister porfolios together with Soon Koh and Mawan.
He said their role as senior ministers would be to coordinate specific development projects and programmes needed to be undertaken together.
He said PBB senior vice-president Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan would be the new Industrial Development Minister, as well as the second Resource Planning and Environment Minister and Public Utilities Minister, while Michael Manyin retained his portfolio as Infrastructure Development and Communications Minister.
He said the Public Works Department (PWD), Agriculture Department and local councils were also being revamped.
“The PWD revamp is almost completed while it may take about five years for the others,” he added.

  3. Another immaturity in politics for those who have tendency to apple polish. ( Take note I am using a mundane term )

In western countries, public appointees are gauged by what they later do with their post and how the serve the people. They don't get praise for being appointed but rather what they later do, and how they serve the people and country.

I suggest that those praising an individual for his appointment stop stooping to that level. Praise an individual for his service yes, but not his post. Unless you have something else or something ulterior for your praise, which of course is somewhat self serving in it's veiled intentions. You do understand what I mean.

  5. Assalamualaikum Brother. Saya minta maaf kalau Sdra anggap salah.

Bukan semata mata jawatannya.

    Maaf jika Sdra tersinggung.

Yg tauk saya Karim kukuh nyokong CM ajak. Mun nulis, guna fakta. Pendirian mesti atas dasar prinsip benar dan bukannya nyokong pemimpin yg dah lamak gilak megang jawatan.

boleh sdra 30 Sept 2011 ya jelas. Jangan nganok pendapat urang lain yg merik pendapat betul.

Lihat pemimpin Iran iaitu Presiden Mahmoud Ahmedinejad. Beliau ialah seorang lulusan jurutera. Sebelum menjadi presiden, beliau ialah Datuk Bandar Tehran. Iaitu jawatan yang dimenangi dalam pilihanraya. Selepas menang pilihanraya Presiden, beliau memegang jawatan Presiden hingga kini. Tahukah kita berapa sebenarnya harta beliau ?

    Wassalam,

  12. Assalamualaikum wrbt.

Saudara saudaraku, Janganlah marah marah. Senyumlah. : ) Ingat hadis Rasulullah s.a.w kita "..

Kita bermuzakarah. Sebenarnya " there is no innuendo " or insinuation against anybody here ".

Al Marhum Tunku Abdul Rahman pun, when he left office, he was an average rich man only. Sederhana kaya. Walaupun nya keturunan Di Raja.

Sik hal lah Saudara saudaraku. Malam tok malam minggu. Kebetulan saya menghadiri satu majlis tapi saya mencuri masa untuk nulis makae blackberry saya, kerana saya gembira saudara saudaraku merik respons dengan tulisan saya.

Saya akan menulis lagi. Urang sebelah saya pun heran nangar saya lamak gilak menekan Blackberry sedangkan perbualan sidaknya macam sik di duli saya. Ya sik bagus sebab saya mesti juak menghormati tetamu yang lain.

    Syukran.

    Wassalam dan akan nulis lagi.

  13. Saya setuju ngan Saudara Knight of Saladin. Penuh hujjah benar dan daya intellek.

Saya rasa janggal gilak sdra kita yg nulis pada October 1, jam 7.34 p.m. ya. Nya madah nya nak ngalah CM kinek tok dari segi kaya mun nyalah jd CM. Saya nak nyanyak ngan nya. Kau nak kaya macam ne ? Sik kau nangar perubahan zaman tok. Zaman dimana urang demand akauntabiliti dan pemimpin baik ? Kau nak jd kedak ne, kaya kedak ne kah ? Sumber dr siney ?

Please jangan nunjuk sikap sik tanggungjawab dr awal agik. Gelombang rakyat nuntut pemimpin yg bersih, bertanggungjawab. Jgn sik malu ngan benda yg sik betul. Sik u maca apa Tun Dr Mahathir madah dalam blognya minggu lepas. Dr M ingatkan MP dan ADUN BN supaya jangan menunjuk nunjuk kekayaan sidaknya sebab ya boleh memuakkan rakyat. So jangan jadi bodo dan madah kau nak ngalah orang lain mun kau jadi CM.

Bangga saya maca pendapat intellek Sdra Knight of Saladin ya. Nya telus dan negur benda yg salah dan sik betul. Hujjahnya kuat dan penuh contoh. Hujjah kau ya apa ? Faktanya penuh sementara fakta kau ya kosong.

Hentikan politik memuja pemimpin yg sik berdasar prinsip betul.

    - Suka kebenaran.

  15. Salam rakan2 seperjuangan,

Pendapat semua bgus2 sekali. Pasal YB Karim tok not a big issue. The big issue ialah bila lagi menteri2 yang dah berabad megang jawatan mauk turun takhta? Semua aim nak jadi CM. Ada yang dah 5 penggal jadi YB. Beriklah peluang gik dgn muka2 baru. Bukan apa.

Bukan nak mengata apalah.

Ada Menteri Kanan embak parti kalah teruk dalam last election but then diangkat jadi pemimpin paling senior dalam Kerajaan. Going for a war but winning a few battles and yet crowned as Senior Leader.. Apa kes ni bro..?

Gaya pemikiran org kita masih kedak ya juak duhal. Never changed since independence. We need a new breath of thinking, a new way of politics.

  16. Mun nya dah maju gaya idupnya, tu rerzekinya. But to say he is the raising star in Sarawak politic is unjustifiable. He only dares to say good things about his so called-corrupted political master. Look at the plight of the Malays still backward.

  17. If we look into the lives of most great leaders of the world, we will understand a few important chronicles, that these great men, most of them do not aim for greatness, for greatness is later thrust upon them.

Abraham Lincoln was a son of a poor farmer and lived in a log cabin. He became a lawyer and won congressional election by convincing that he has better ideas and better ideals. He won the US Presidential election but not without it's test and trials. He won debates with his opponent Stephan A. Douglas, another presidential contender. Abe ( a name Abraham was fondly referred to ) Lincoln won the debate because he believe in the moral issues of opposing slavery and the ills of corruption.

When elected to the White House Abraham Lincoln did not aim to enrich himself. He believed in developing the nation's industry and progressing without taking away the fundamental rights of other human beings, and that is the right of every man to be free. Lincoln did not declare that he is the rising star in any event, and when elected his supporters expected much from him. It was his victorious win in the American Civil war that made him great. But in his victory, he did not thrumpeted his achievements.

But rather he wanted to heal a divided nation. History made him great and not his supporters.

In the Muslim history, no great Caliphs of the Rightful ( Khulafa Rashidin ) declare that they are great. They look upon their role as a trust from the Divine and they were too shy and cautious in dealing with the state treasury and state money. Khalifa Umar ibnu al Khattab is one glaring example, he did not rely on his advisers to rule a country but instead he went on the country to find out how many poor people were left behind so that they can benefit from the state treasury, the Baitul Mal. Umar ( r.a ) did not ask for any men to praise him for he feared that such praises would detract him from his duty as the vicegerent of ALLAH, for he knew that his role as the Leader of men will come into question by GOD HIMSELF if he fails in his duty.

Another Caliph, Khalifa Umar ibnu Abdul Aziz was also another GOD fearing leader, he orders that no one working in the government can benefit from the state wealth and even those who worked and earned what can be deemed as legal income by today's standard, Umar ibnu Abdul Aziz had thoroughly inspected their earnings and insisted that they give it up, if their success in business was actually due to their respected position in the government.

Sarawak politics is too primitive to the liking of most people. These politics of patronages and politics of money and politics of wealth creation had made politics the gold mine for many. Can we be honest and earnest to ourselves that those praising their so called leaders are not doing it for their gains ?

Look, I am trying to be lame and mundane in my observations but I find that those people praising some so called rising star are just too fallacious to be true. Why call some one a rising star ? In western countries, leaders who win elections receive congratulatory notes and compliments from all. They were not call" Rising star " when they win. Instead the people await for their actions and leadership and sees them as the steward in leading a country into progress and greater success.

I hope that those who are in high praise of a public appointee will correct their understanding on what a leadership is all about. It is about men or women who are given trust and that these public appointees must fulfill that trust before deserving any compliment.

Look at the state of Sarawak politics, when so and so becomes a public appointee then there is again this talk that " there is an old man blessing " that so and so becomes the head of a wing of the party. Do we not know that, that Head of a wing in a party is an elected post ? Leave that to the members to decide, rather than the patriach to dictate his will again and again.

Let freedom and democracy live and grow.

    Regards
