Sesco S.U.C.K.S !!!

The government should do something to force Sesco to buck up. The quality of its service is nothing to shout about but it has the guts to be arrogant towards its customers.

MY CLAIM: Tchong (centre) files his claim accompanied by Chong.
Customer files claim against Sesco

Posted on June 1, 2011, Wednesday

KUCHING: A Syarikat Sesco Berhad (Sesco) customer filed a complaint against the company for alleged payment arrears with the Tribunal for Consumer Claims yesterday.

Tchong Soon Thian claimed to have received a bill from Sesco saying he was in arrears of RM4,032.10, which included a RM400 administrative fee and RM500 meter fee.

He is said to have paid the meter and administrative fees under duress and fear that the electricity supply to his house would be disconnected. However, after consulting some friends, Tchong believed Sesco had no basis to charge both fees.

Bandar Kuching member of parliament Chong Chieng Jen, who accompanied Tchong to file the claim, said Sesco should not charge the fees because the company owns the meter, which is not for sale. He said the meter is actually a tool for Sesco to earn revenue, making it capital, which should not be charged to customers.

“Another reason is that the charging of RM500 meter fee is exorbitant and arbitrary. There were many instances of Sesco waiving the said charge when its customers complained.

“There are also many instances when the company only charges its customers RM150 for the meter fee. There is no reason that the claimant be discriminated,” he said.

Chong explained that Sesco had alleged that the old meter at Tchong’s premises was tampered with and that the old meter was running 65 per cent slower.

The old meter was then changed and replaced with a new one in August last year.

However, after the old meter was replaced, the claimant’s average monthly bill was RM30, less than the average monthly electricity bill of RM40 before the replacement was made.As such, Chong said the claimant wanted a refund of RM900 and costs of RM200

  1. Even if SESCO makes a mistake, is there a need to use bad words here. " SUCKS " word is not palatable at all.

Just be civilised. Lodged a complaint if you may, then see the outcome of it. Then if you are still dissatisfied, then take further action. Legally and in a dignified way.

There is really no need to be unnecessarily mad and rude and angry here. Everybody makes mistakes sometimes.

  3. Why are some people making a mountain out of a mole hill ? Is SESCO giving bad services all this while ? Generally no. Is SESCO a " scum " all these years ? I don't think so.

If this man feels that he had been over charged, so the problem is over charge and charged for something that he strongly feels that he should not have to pay. Well and fine. Then lodge a complaint with the Tribunal and see what will the Tribunal do ?

Why the necessity to make it a political issue at all ? Why should some politicians be invited to get more mileage from such a small trivial matter. This is not a matter of public interest. SESCO generally does not over charge it's clients unless there could be a mistake. So why make this a political issue ? Are there not many more issues left for the politicians to delve on ?

Be matured please, oh politician. Don't make yourselves laughable.

  5. Has SESCO been treating anyone badly ? Nay, tell me when and whom. SESCO is generally okay. Wait till you stay in West Malaysia, there are certain IPP ( Independent power producers ) who are not meeting consumer expectations. Not in Sarawak. I can't recall SESCO treating anyone badly.

This publicity stunt is too much for politics and for political mileage alone. Chieng Jien should have chosen better issues.

Why does he chose to be the filler of complaint forms when there are other better issues to be addressed ?

  12. I am a retired citizen since many years ago. Yes, I do encounter occassions where our electricity bills had been tripped off, or inadvertantly cut through natural causes like rain or outage at the SESCO stations.

My wife is running a bakery business, yes during the cuts we experience minor losses. But those cuts were temporary because the SESCO men would reectift them and restore electricity to the benefits of all residents in the area.

But these financial losses were relatively minor to us, and we knew that most of the time, the electricity cuts were not inetentional faults of SESCO. Yet we never curse them. I had one neighbour who was over charged by SESCO, he lodged a compliant and then SESCO investigated and found a basis for his complaint and rectify his billings. Never have we at any time curse SESCO or bring up this matter to the attention of some preying politicians who would jump to the slightest instance of hurling accusations of "......" service.

You know even I feel embarassed to type those bad words here. My question to this man here is why doesn't he lodge a complaint to SESCO and finally to the Tribunal himself ? Why the need to be a bait to some opportunist politician who would go for any mile to get undeserving publicity ?

I detest the use of bad words in this forum and I am surprised how anyone could have use it to express their dissatisfaction.

And for a politician to seize this just to show case to the world that he is attentive to the people, this act is to some extent " opportunist " and perhaps childish.

Chong Chieng Jen, grow up please, don't just grow old.

  21. I’m one of the victims of SESCO arrear bill and charge me RM400 for administration & RM150 for meter fee. I really need help from DAP.

All the while, Sarawakian has been fool by of CM & his group of people. Sarawakians pay 34 cents to support industrial. Aluminium smelting plant & those Samajaya Industrial is paying less than 20 cents if I’m not wrong.

Just ask yourself, is that fare to consumer?

Consumer win most cases except SESCO case, when you file complain to consumer court, they will say SESCO is protected by the Sarawak Ordinance. They can simply bill and change meter without your knowledge or witness. If you fail to pay, they can just deduct directly from your deposit.

DAP, please do something about it. Kick their ASS. TQ.
