SIBU: Sarawak Teachers’ Union (STU) calls on the Ministry of Education to devise a grade progression mechanism to better reflect teachers’ seniority and contribution.
THANK YOU: Ngieng (third right) gives a token of appreciation to a teacher Jitai Ajong of SK Ulu Ranan, Kanowit while (from left) Huo, Ghani and Tan look on.
Its president William Ghani Bina said yesterday, the approach would counter teachers’ dissatisfaction in not getting promotions, by raising their grade.
He also called for more opportunities be given to teachers to further their studies, allowing them to specialise when they returned.
“It is not easy to get promoted but to safeguard teachers’ motivation, the ministry perhaps can come up with some kind of grade where qualified teachers can progress and not remain stagnant as they are.

Abdullah, Kampung Bruit needs more actions and less talking
We hope that the new elected representative YB Abdullah Saidol would work hard to bring significant development into Pulau Bruit.
However, he has to realise that many of the islanders are not interested in any rhetoric statement.
They just want actions after being 'neglected' for so many years!!!

SNAP is technically a BN component party but need to 're-apply' to 're-join'???
Dr Stephen Rundi Utom |
Posted on May 21, 2011, Saturday
KUCHING: It may sound intriguing but the fact is that SNAP is technically still a BN component party because they were never “kicked out” of the coalition.
However, state BN secretary general Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said for SNAP to be re-admitted into the BN, it has to re-apply as their re-entry into the BN cannot be automatic.
“The reason is that SNAP was deregistered in 2002 and its re-entry into the BN could not be automatic as they need to re-apply after they won their case against the ROS’s decision to deregister the party,” Dr Rundi told The Borneo Post here yesterday.
He added that even though SNAP had re-applied to join the BN just before former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad relinquished his post in 2004, the BN supreme council could not re-admit the party as it was still entangled in court proceedings then.

Consider relinquishing top post in SMC — PBB Bukit Assek youth chief
Consider relinquishing top post in SMC — PBB Bukit Assek youth chief
SIBU: SUPP’s dismal outing at the recent state election may cost the party more than what is already apparent.
It even makes PBB think that SUPP should let go of the chairmanship of Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).
PBB Bukit Assek youth chief Abdul Hajis Abdullah said it was not irrational to say now that SUPP should relinquish either the chairmanship or deputy chairmanship of the council since the party no longer has the support of the people in this municipality.
“On this question, it is not that I want to raise the question of race. But actually the Chinese themselves had signified they did not want their community to lead SMC,” Hajis told reporters here recently.
Presently, SUPP’s Datuk Tiong Thai King and Daniel Ngieng Kiong Ann are the municipal chairman and deputy chairman.
Tiong, who is also Lanang MP, contested in Dudong in the state election and lost to DAP’s Yap Hoi Liong.
