Who is the legendary Sibu Malay conman? (Part 1 of 2)

by Sebanaku Sarawak

KUCHING: After amassing hundreds of millions since 1987, the legendary Sibu Malay conman starts to feel that his strong grip over the government coffers are beginning to weaken.

If the past, he needed not to worry at all whether or not he would get a project in the state.

When he was interested in a particular project, he would certainly get it.

This was because the government leaders had a total trust in him.

However, the Sibu by-election was the starting point of his downfall.

It was during the Sibu by-election that Sebanaku Sarawak started to highlight his greediness which apparently had caught the attention of those in power.

Few days before the election, this blog – which was created less than a week before the election day - had received many hits. Obviously from the Sibu folks who were hungry for information about their elected representative Datuk Awang Bemee Ali Basah and the legendary Sibu Malay conman.

While those who are not from Sibu would out rightly dismiss the claims as mere baseless accusations or allegations, the Sibu folks and government leaders thought otherwise.

As far as the majority of them (both the Sibu folks and government leaders) were concerned, the blog was telling the truth.

They had heard rumours about the legendary Sibu Malay conman but no body was seemed able to confirm the rumours until it was boldly stated in Sebanaku Sarawak.

As a result of this, the legendary Sibu Malay conman’s chances of monopolizing the supply of water equipment, electrification and road projects in the rural area of Sarawak under the 10 Malaysia Plan (MP) are certainly next to impossible now.

The governments have decided to give the projects to many contractors with the distribution is being entrusted to a group of people.

The legendary Sibu Malay conman has indicated his serious intention to be appointed as an umbrella company for the projects but the governments didn’t want to entertain him anymore.

Of course, if he is lucky, the legendary Sibu Malay conman would get some portions of the projects but his company is certainly not going to be appointed as the sole executor for the projects which are worth billions of ringgits.

He was given a total trust by the government leaders to use projects which were given to him to help the Sibu Malays to raise their standard of living but he betrayed the trust by enriching himself.

And because of his arrogant attitude, the government had suffered financially and politically.

His company Javel Engineering Sdn Bhd was awarded the project to build Sekolah Menengah Sains Matang by which he made a claim of RM11 millions for earthwork on a land of only six acres.

How was possible for the earthwork to cost that much???

He had also wasted the rakyat money when a consortium Jendela Hikmat which was controlled by his company Cascara Sdn Bhd failed to complete a construction of an army camp in Samarahan that worth RM220 millions.

The consortium, which also included Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT) and Bakti Wira Sdn Bhd, had applied for an extension order for six months from the Ministry of Finance which was later approved by the ministry.

However, when the six months period lapsed, the project was still uncompleted!!!

The legendary Sibu Malay conman didn’t seem to be afraid of any action to be taken against him because he knew that the government leaders would certainly believe his stories no matter how ridiculous they were.

This was because they trust him.

As it is now, the legendary Sibu Malay conman is trying to blame the Nangka assemblyman Datuk Awang Bemee Ali Basah for the defeat of the Barisan Nasional candidate Robert Lau Hui Yew in the recent Sibu by-election.

Datuk Awang Bemee Ali Basah was not totally to be blamed for the decline in the support from the Malays because both of them were expected to help the Sibu Malays.

Instead of trying to kill Datuk Awang Bemee Ali Basah, the legendary Sibu Malay conman should realize that he better get himself ready for the days when he is no longer part of the government’s plan to assist the Sibu Malays, in particular, and the Sarawak Malays, in general.

He was not only conned the Sibu Malays but he had also conned the government leaders who had trusted him wholeheartedly.

His days are numbered … he should realize it by now.

(to be continued...)
