Federal government and federal government top civil servants should recognise and help Sarawak develop
Many a times development funds for Sarawak has been blocked or diverted by federal civil servants. This is a very sorry state of affairs. We hope that this shortcoming which deprives sarawakians of billions of ringgit of development is rectified soon.
KUCHING: The federal allocation for the physical development of Sarawak must be proportionate as the state was one of the four entities that formed the Federation of Malaysia.
As such, president of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Tan Sri Dr James Masing suggested that the allocation to Sarawak must be a reflection of the state as one of four entities that formed the federation and not just one of the 13 states in Malaysia as stated in the constitution.
However, he also pointed out that since Singapore had left the federation in 1965, the proposition of allocation for Sarawak must be reflective of the historical fact.
“It must be proportionate to who we are and based on our needs. The money must be supplied to us to meet that need,” Masing told the Borneo Post recently.
Masing who is also the Minister of Land Development pointed out that the so-called Pan-Borneo Highway was just one example of the
pathetic condition of the infrastructure in the state which needed to be upgraded.
“The North-South and East-West highways of Peninsula Malaysia have three or four lanes so whatever we have here is an embarrassment,” he stressed.
Masing calls for impartial allotment of funds for state development
