THE construction of 24.6km Jalan Basi, which will link Brayun in Sri Aman to the Kuching-Sibu trunk road near Engkilili, will require an estimate RM75 million funding.

“Only RM15 million has been approved for the project under the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP) which is only sufficient for the construction of 3km of the road,” said Assistant Minister of Communications Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

Responding to a query from Dr Johnichal Rayong (BN-Engkilili), Lee added that work would commence when the contract had been finalised.

In addition, the proposed Jalan Raya Murad/Sungai Darai/Kampung Panchor at Ulu Skrang will involve a 34km – ‘R3’ road which branches off from Sri Aman/Sarikei trunk road to Kampung Panchor at Ulu Skrang.

“Survey and design works by consultants for the Sri Aman/Sarikei Trunk Road to Sg Darai (16.8km) and from Sg Darai to Kampung Panchor (17.2km) have been completed,” Lee said.

Meanwhile, Assistant Minister of Infrastructure Development Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman informed Wong Hua Seh (DAP-Repok) that it was not necessary to build a road connecting Sungai Baji and Merudu.

“There already exist JKR roads to Sungai Baji and Merudu and due the limited funds the state government has, it is not necessary to build a new road now.”

Over in Sadong Jaya, the Skim Saliran Asajaya/Sadong Jaya Blok 1, 2, 3 and 4 are being maintained by Department of and Drainage and Irrigation (DID) under the Drainage and Irrigation Operation and Maintenance yearly budget.

“An amount of RM350,000 has been allocated to carry out maintenance work for the scheme this year,” said Minister of Rural Development Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu.
