KUCHING: Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud went through the roof after experiencing an embarrassing incident in Sibu about two months ago.
He just could not believe his ears that Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak would ever ask him the question when both of them were in Sibu for the recent by-election.
He recalled Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak politely asked him: “Pehin Sri, do you want us to help you to pay some of the campaigning expenses?”
Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud remembered very well that he was taken aback with this question but he still managed to hold his composure.
He kept quiet for awhile as if he was considering the request.
“May I know why,” he asked Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak.
Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak replied: “I was told by *** (read as the legendary Sibu Malay conman) that he is paying all the expenses for the campaign.”
And again Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud didn’t immediately give his response.
He was quiet for a moment. And then he said: “Thanks for your kind offer Datuk Seri but I think we can still handle it.”
After that Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak quickly changed the topic of his conversation with Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.
Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud knew that Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak didn’t want him to feel offended by his sincere intention to assist the State Barisan Nasional in financing the campaign during the Sibu parliamentary by-election.
However, as far as he knew, he didn’t ask the legendary Sibu Malay conman to pay even a single cent for Barisan Nasional (BN) during the campaign.
And he also damned sure that the legendary Sibu Malay conman didn’t make any offer to him to pay even a single cent for the campaign.
Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud was wondering why the legendary Sibu Malay conman lied to Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, who happens to be a good friend of the legendary Sibu Malay conman, that he, i.e. the legendary Sibu Malay conman, was paying all the campaigning expenses.
Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud just could not fathom on the reason for this an outright lie.
He trusted the legendary Sibu Malay conman wholeheartedly but the legendary Sibu Malay conman was stabbing him in the back – i.e. telling lies to Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak as to indirectly paint a negative picture about Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.
What Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud knew that he had asked Dato Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan to get the money for the Sibu parliamentary by-election.
Although he didn’t know the details on where the money went to, he knew for sure that the legendary Sibu Malay conman didn’t pay a single cent for the election campaign.
He knew very well the character of the legendary Sibu Malay conman who would not pay without being asked.
Apparently the legendary Sibu Malay conman had miscalculated his move when he lied to Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak about him paying all the election expenses.
He didn’t expect Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak would be that ‘impolite’ to offer assistance to Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.
He thought that Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak would take pity of him and subsequently give him more projects to reimburse his expenses for the by-election.
The legendary Sibu Malay conman was not only trying to fool his good friend Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak but he also tried to do that to a Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) member Mohd Nor Daim.
Dato Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan entrusted the Nangka assemblyman Datuk Awang Bemee Ali Basah a portion of the money meant for the by-election.
Datuk Awang Bemee Ali Basah took the money and distributed to all PBB sub-branches in the Nangka constituency as well as Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) sub-branches in the Iban-majority area.
However, due to his trust in the legendary Sibu Malay conman, Datuk Awang Bemee Ali Basah gave him RM230,000 which was to be distributed to those sub-branches which were yet to get their election budget.
(Datuk Awang Bemee Ali Basah respected him as an elder but the legendary Sibu Malay conman stabbed him at the back by telling the top leadership that Datuk Awang Bemee Ali Basah was to blamed for the defeat of the BN candidate Robert Lau Hui Yew from SUPP in the recent Sibu parliamentary by-election.)
The legendary Sibu Malay conman carried out his duty without fail.
He gave the money to Mohd Noor Daim.
However, he told Mohd Noor Daim that the money was from his own pocket.
What the legendary Sibu Malay conman didn’t know that Mohd Noor Daim later told both Dato Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Awang Bemee Ali Basah that the legendary Sibu Malay conman claimed the money was his.
True enough to his reputation as a conman, the legendary Sibu Malay conman actually made a tidy sum of ‘profit’ during the Sibu parliamentary by-election.
He claimed a sum of RM95,000 from SUPP as his expenditures for the Sibu parliamentary by-election.
He managed to con RM95,000 from the party Sibu Chief Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh who thought the claims were genuine.
The legendary Sibu Malay conman tricked the Chairman of Barisan Nasional Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak to believe that he made a big financial contribution for the by-election when he didn’t spend a single cent for the Barisan Nasional in the by-election.
Now, words are spreading around in Putra Jaya that he wants to be ‘reimbursed’ for all of his monies which he ‘spent’ during the Sibu parliamentary by-election.
He wants to be ‘reimbursed’ by getting projects through negotiated tender.
A very smart and highly intelligent conman – he spent ZERO cent to get RM95,000 as an ‘immediate’ reimbursement and HUNDRED MILLIONS OF RINGGITS as a ‘future’ reimbursement for his ‘contribution’ during the Sibu parliamentary by-election.
Even a Foochow is no match for him. The legendary Sibu Malay conman is indeed a legend!!!
