KUCHING: Salam 1Malaysia ...
"Pick any culture of the indigenous people and fully embrace it. And if you can't be one of us, then just be happy with what you are now!"
Basically this is what Malaysian Bumiputera Rights Movement (Perkasa) is telling d non-Bumiputera over the native status issue which was raised by the Batu Lintang assemblyman Voon Lee Shan on last Friday in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN).
Perkasa is fuming with Lee Shan for making a call to the State Government to recognise the non-Bumiputera as Bumiputera by virtue of a decree made by a Rajah Brooke so many years ago!
But why Perkasa is mad with the call when Lee Shan was doing it based on fact that - as claimed by the assemblyman - there is no court ruling that nullifies the decree!!!
He is just stating the fact of law - i.e. no court ruling nullifies the decree and therefore the Chinese as well as the Indians, and the Eurasians in Sarawak are stil recognised by the law (in the country?) as Bumiputera.
Therefore, he and other non-Bumiputera deserve to be accorded the same (not similar but same) treatment which is accorded to the Malays and Dayaks.
And the fact that not even one Bumiputera assemblyman stood up to challenge his claims, when he was debating the motion of thanks to the Head of State, implying that there are some truth in his claim.
Perkasa should check the fact before telling the non-Bumiputera to be Malays or Dayaks in order to be recognised as Bumiputera.
And, the call also does not contradicts the 1Malaysia concept which is propagated by our beloved Prime Minister.
Datuk Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak said all races are of the same status under the concept.
So, why can't give the non-Bumiputera the Bumiputera status as embodied in the spirit of 1Malaysia???
Salam 1Malaysia!!!
