PUSA: Incumbent Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim will be re-nominated to defend Batang Lupar parliamentary seat for the Barisan Nasional (BN) in the coming 13th general election.
Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud made this announcement when he attended a meet-the people session organised by Rohani here yesterday.
The function was organised in conjunction with the District Level Consumerism Month celebration initiated by Rohani who is also Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism.
Stressing that all the candidates picked by the BN to contest in the coming general election were of high calibre, credibility and the ability to deliver, Taib called on the people to accord them their full support.
“By giving the BN their full support, the people can rest assured of continuity in terms of economic development, stability, peace and harmony,” he said.
Taib also urged the people to judge the performance of BN as a team rather than individuals, because, the peace and stability and economic prosperity which the people had been enjoying till this day were efforts of all BN leaders who had been working as a team
The people should not doubt the capability of the BN government in administering the country as it’s excellent track record bore testimony to that, he pointed out, adding, apart from having an organised and well strategised development programme, the BN government had been able to handle challenges from within and without.
“For example, when the world encountered the economic crisis caused by the hike in price of fuel, the BN government was there to cushion and minimise the effects on the people.
“Apart from providing subsidies, the BN government had set up ‘Kedai 1Malaysia (KR1M), disbursed 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BRIM), RM100 assistance to all primary and secondary school children, RM200 book voucher to all students in institutions of higher learning and many more,” he added.
Touching on development in Batang Lupar, Taib said that he was pleased to note that the locals had been very responsive to the economic activities recommended by the government, hence, vast areas had been developed for palm oil plantations.
He believed Pusa and Batang Lupar in general would become a major palm oil producer given the positive attitude of the local farming community.
During the function Taib also presented minor rural projects grants to several bodies in the area.
Among those present were Rohani, Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Patinggi Alfred Jabu, MDTCC deputy secretary general Datin Mahani Tan Abdulah, Assisatnt Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Islamic Affairs) Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman and Puan Sri Ragad Kurdi Taib.
