MACC investigates Taib Mahmud over timber corruption allegations

2011/06/09

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed that it is currently investigating Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud over allegation of timber corruption.
Its commissioner, Datuk Seri Abu Kassim Mohamed said the commission was in the process of gathering more information regarding the matter.

"As I said earlier, we are investigating Taib Mahmud and whatever our action is, we cannot reveal at this moment," he told reporters at Sime Darby Bhd's signing and handing over corporate integrity pledge to the MACC, here today.

Abu Kassim was responding to a question on whether the MACC was looking at carrying out a similar action by the Swiss Anti Corruption Agency, which recently froze the assets of Taib Mahmud over the allegation of timber corruption.

According to a foreign news report, the Swiss Federation president Micheline Calmy-Rey was reported to be aware of the allegations and had forwarded the information about Taib’s assets in Switzerland to its regulatory body FINMA (the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority) for investigation.

  2. It's a big mistake that Bustari engaged this guy Dtk Antony Bujang as CEO of Petra Energy. I don't know why he was taken out as NST group Head but the sudden move shows that he has not been able to bring NST group forward. The day Petra Energy announce his appointment as CEO, public and investors confidence towards Petra Energy drop and so are the shares of Petra Energy. It's a bad move Bustari. Check this guy background before you bring him in. Is he the type who could bring up PetraEnergy forward with his experience, if he has any. He join TV3 way back in the nineties after he failed Dtk Daud hospital laundry biznes. Luckily he has a bro in law in high position in TV3 then to salvage him. The restructuring of TV3 and the formation of Media Prima saw him and Gang taking up the higher position in Media Prima.....to finally his last position as CEO NST group. But...sepandai2 tupai melompat, jatuh juga. And here, this Bustari is the saviour. We hope he could steer PetraEnergy forward as investors are watching. The slide in Petra shares upon his appointment is an indication.

    3. Errrmmm.. bullshits can get you on top fast but after a while, people will know that you are just full of bullshits. He was suppose to bring NST as part of Media Prima but he coup d'état the whole exercise by opening up to Employee Share Option in which he & a few makes millions. He then go on look out for new prey to kill. Petra Energy is next. He & his team that make millions in NST are those who did not get their contract renewed.

  3. Anonymous, stop being a pessimistic dooms day asshole. Looking at the results of NSTP during his tenure, Datuk Anthony has been the best CEO the group could have asked for. Of course you wouldn't know that during his time, the staff of NSTP also got their highest bonus ever (up to 8 mths) premised upon the Group's best achievement in 166 years on the back of pure newspaper operations. With Petra's financial position as it currently is today, watch this guy do his magic. NSTP lost a good person in this episode. Bustari didn't make a mistake engaging Datuk Anthony. Your mother made a mistake giving birth to you.

And Sebanaku Sarawak, what can I say about someone who blogs without checking their facts? Anak Jalan Dagok put it right from the get go. In the newspaper business, the CEO runs the corporate side of things and has no say in the news being published. That is left to the Editors. Besides, if MACC is investigating Taib Mahmud, it gives Taib Mahmud an opportunity to put things right. What is so humiliating with that? Don't you want Taib Mahmud to be able to prove himself innocent? Please la...

  4. Relax relax anonymous jan16. Give your views professionally. You need not have to resort to use vulgar words like asshole or blaming anonymous jan14 mother for bringing him or her into this world. Anonymous Jan 14 is just giving his opinion which is his. The crude manner in anonymous jan16 reply reflects his immaturity n shallow thinking and addressing people n a good institution for this type of idiots is Tanjong Rambutan. Grow up Jan16 . You may be a supporter of Antony Bujang but big establish body like NST Group don't remove GOOD people if they can produce good results n bring in good return. A primary school boy will agree that anyone that could bring in good money n result to a corporate body should be kept. Why Antony Bujang was remove raise eyebrow n a lot of question mark. Datuk Daud Eastboune would know who this crap is.
