BORNEO Cultural Festival (BCF) 2011 which was supposed to be held in Sibu last April had to be postponed as the organisers needed more time and thorough preparation for the event.

BCF is among the tourism attractions for Sibu in the last 10 years and is an international event showcasing local and world cultures. Assistant Minister of Tourism and Heritage Datuk Talib Zulpilip told the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting yesterday the postponement was to ensure the high quality and image of the event be maintained.

Talib was answering a question by Wong Ho Leng (DAP- Bukit Assek) who wanted to know why it was postponed and not held at all this year.

He also disclosed that the organisers needed RM800,000 from the federal government, state government, corporate bodies and individuals to carry out the event.

Meanwhile, Wong told The Borneo Post that the organisers could have just carried out the event instead of postponing it as they were willing to lend a helping hand.

He said he was unhappy with the answer given by the minister because he had the actual reason given to him officially by Sibu Municipal Council chairman and secretary.
