SNAP: We are not leaving PR

KUCHING: Pakatan Rakyat (PR) can now breathe a sigh of relief as Sarawak National Party (SNAP) is not leaving the coalition.

SNAP secretary general Edmund Stanley Jugol said the party has no intention to leave PR at all, contrary to recent media reports.

He told a media conference yesterday that the decision of SNAP joining United Borneo Front (UBF) has nothing to do with the party wanting to dissociate itself from PR.

"To say that we are leaving PR is not true, when we decided to join UBF it is just because we have a common ideology with our counterparts from Sabah to fight for equal rights for the people of both state," Jugol explained.

Attending the conference at SNAP headquarters was DAP state secretary Chong Chieng Jen.

SNAP on Thursday officially joined the Borneo Alliance under UBF civil rights movement of Sabah, headed by Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan.

He admitted that SNAP and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) had some friction due to seats allocation, but said that it was just a misunderstanding and believed that the problem could be thrashed out.

Media reports recently said that SNAP, which was the latest entry into the state PR which also comprises PKR, DAP and PAS, had indicated its intention to leave the coalition.

Jugol however denied such reports, saying: "sometimes reports in the newspaper just go wild."

Chong, meanwhile, also admitted that there were "clashes" between SNAP and PKR with each party demanding for more seats.

He, however, concurred with Jugol that it was just a misunderstanding and believed that both parties could reach an amicable solution.

"Difficult as it may be, it's a task we have to solve3, but at the end of the day PR will still have to contest one on one against Barisan Nasional (BN) and the problem we have will be solved," added Chong, who is Bandar Baru MP and Kota Sentosa assemblyman. Jugol also said SNAP was getting stronger with the entry of many former Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) and PKR members.

On the functions of UBF, Jugol explained that among others it will fight for equal treatment of the people of Sabah and Sarawak, whom he claimed have not been fairly treated both in terms of development grants and employment. - Borneo Post -

  3. I doubt the sincerity of SNAP. But if left with no choice my vote will still go to it's candidate. The important thing is the change that i want.
