FOR THE APPOINTMENT AS
THE NEW STATE WOMEN CHIEF
The newly elected Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) state women’s chief Nurhanim Datuk Mokhsen prefers to remain tight-lipped about the seat she will contest for, in the next state and general elections.
Speaking at a press conference here yesterday, she said the decision whether she would contest in Semariang in the state election or Petra Jaya in the general election was in PKR Party central’s hands.
“I don’t know whether I’ll contest. But, I’m from Petra Jaya branch,” said Nurhanim, who was also appointed as the PKR central women’s supreme council member.
She said PKR had already identified several qualified women candidates for the next state election.
“We will make the announcement later. One thing for sure is that PKR wants to have more women candidates,” she said.
She said as Sarawak was a vast state, it was important that everyone in the opposition front worked closely to ensure victory in the state polls. She said the women’s wing would continue to fight for women’s rights in the state.
Nurhanim, 41, a graduate from a university in Australia, joined PKR three years ago.
The other supreme council members for the 2010-2011 term are deputy chief Cecelia Siti Una, vice-chief (I) Helen Jimbai, secretary Christina Lambet, treasurer Cecelia Manan, publicity chief Chai Hsing Lung and publicity assistant chief Choo Yee Lian and committee members Voon Shiak Ni, Margaret Yak and Roslind Lambet.
