Mahyan to seek revenge?

by Sebanaku Sarawak

KUCHING: To some in Sarawak or even in Malaysia, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Batu Lintang Branch deputy chairman Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed is a legendary figure in football.

Although in term of achievement, his successors could be better than him, it is undeniable fact that his era as the Sarawak football coach is more electrifying and exciting if compared with any coach in Sarawak.

It was during his short reign that he coined the Ngap Sayot battle cry which is still famous until now.
In fact the battle cry was used in the recent Sibu parliamentary by-election by the oppositions which later won the seat defeating the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate.

Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed was reported by the press as unhappy with this because he was not consulted.

He is the creator of the battle cry and he thinks that anybody who wants to use the famous battle cry must get his permission.

Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed's popularity is not confined to the football enthusiasts but also those at the corridors of power in the state.

As a matter of fact, the Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud is seemed to be fond of Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed - may be because he is impressed with the coach's ability to get all Sarawakians together, regardless of their political orientation or religion or race, to support the football team.

Thus, it was not a surprise that Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud had decided to grant Awang Mahyan Awang Mahmud's wish as a way to say thank you for his tremendous contributions to football.

When Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed got a call from a brother of Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud who told him that Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud wanted to see him, he was really surprised.

And at the same time, he was scared because he thought that he had offended Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud with his football antics.

Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed was never scared of any man - and many can vouch this.

But he was trembling in fear upon hearing the news of Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud wanted to see him.

He was scared because he really respected Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud who had indirectly given him the necessary assistance to bring up the football to a higher level in the country.

When he met Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, he was surprised when the Chief Minister asked him to tell him what was his wish!!!

Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed felt that as if he was strike by a thunder bolt because he never thought that Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud would be that kind to him.

After regaining his composure, Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed said he planned to stat a fuel supply business in Bau.

Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud honored his words and assisted Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed to start his fuel supply business.

However, although Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed was a football legend, obviously he had no business management skills.

He had to give away the business as he just could not handle it.

He also tried his hands in other business such as supply of gas cylinders.

And again, it was proven that Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed was person who knew how to get business but he didn't have the skills to turn his business undertakings into successful ventures.

Instead of making money, Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed was actually losing monies.

Later Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud got to know about Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed's financial difficulties.

He took pity of him and asked his men to assist Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed.

However, instead of helping Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed as instructed by Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, his men were merely using Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed to assist themselves.

Second Minister for Planning and Resource Management Dato Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan called Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed to see him inside his office and told him that Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud had asked him to assist the football great.

Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed was excited with the news and started to think big plans in the plantation business.

Few weeks later, he came to see Dato Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan with a proposal.

Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed had identified a state land which he wanted to apply for his plantation business.

Dato Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan commented the land applied by Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed was too small and asked him to look for bigger land.

After a period of few weeks, Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed came to see Dato Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan again.

And again Dato Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan was not in favour of the proposal.

This time around he said the location of the land was not suitable.

This continued for a number of occassions until Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed fed-up with the whole thing and wanted to forget it.

Suddenly he got a call from Dato Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan's secretary who asked him to come to Dato Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan's office.

Initially he thought that Dato Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan had agreed with one of his proposals.

But when he reached the office, he was surprise when the secretary gave him few files and asked him to sign the documents inside it.

When he opened all the files, he was surprised that the documents were actually for forming new companies by which he was one of the directors.

Despite of the fact that there were no mention at all on the percentage of his shares in the documents, he just signed the documents in good faith.

He told himself since it was Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud who asked Dato Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan to him, he should not be suspicious of Dato Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan's intention of forming companies by which all the directors were Dato Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan's men, with an exception of Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed himself.

Few weeks later he was told that he would be getting only 5% share.

He was upset but there was nothing he could do because he had signed the documents.

However, until now he is yet to see a single cent from his 'plantation business'.

He is wondering whether the business had really taken off the ground or nothing happened after he signed the documents.

His closed friends wanted him to tell Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud  through Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud's brother about this but he preferred not to because he still regarded Dato Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan as his friend.

Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed also had experienced similar problem with  his boss in the  PBB Batu Lintang Branch chairman Senator Datuk Idris Buang, who is  his other good friend.

He got a call from Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud's brother who asked  him whether he had received his share from a timber concession which was given to a group of people, including himself.

His friend told him that Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud had told Datuk Idris Buang that he would only agree to give the concession if Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed was a party to the concession.

When Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed got to know about this, he called up Datuk Idris Buang asking for his portion.

He was surprised when Datuk Idris Buang told him that he had returned the concession to the state government because some politicians were not happy with Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud's decision to award them the timber concession.

Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed was upset because he was not consulted by virtue of the fact that he had some portion in the logging concession.

And at the same time he didn't buy Datuk Idris Buang's story.

Nevertheless, for the sake of friendship, Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed decided not to pursue the matter.

He just wanted to forget it.

However, as it is now, he is rumoured to contemplate on the possibility to contest in the coming state election under the opposition ticket after being approached by Pakatan Rakyat leaders.

Apparently he is upset that he has been used by those who had been asked by Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud to help him; and he wanted to get his revenge.

However, it is not known the real motive of him  for choosing to contest in the Nangka constituency if he finally decided to contest in the coming state election.

But it is a known fact that Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed was upset with the Nangka assemblyman Datuk Awang Bemee Ali Basah for avoiding him on his son's job application.

Datuk Awang Bemee Ali Basah had promised him to help his son to get a job at the Kuching Port Authority (KPA) but when he called to ask Datuk Awang Bemee Ali Basah about the matter, Datuk Awang Bemee Ali Basah didn't pick up his call.

And when he did pick up the call, Datuk Awang Bemee Ali Basah would say that he was oversea; and therefore could only talk to Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed when he has returned to the state.

Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed was upset because he had helped Datuk Awang Bemee Ali Basah a lot in politics but it seemed that Datuk Awang Bemee Ali Basah had forgotten all of his assistance to him.

Datuk Awang Bemee Ali Basah was already with Dato Sri Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar; and he didn't need Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed anymore.

Thus, it is not a surprise at all if Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed finally decides to contest under the opposition ticket the coming state election in view of what the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) leaders have done onto him.

When this happens, then the famous battle cry Ngap Sayot is surely to be adopted by the Pakatan Rakyat.

NGGGGGGGGAAAAAAAAAPPPPPP    SSSSSSSSAAAAAAYYYYYYYYOOOOOOOOOTTTT!!!!!!!!!

NGAP SAYOT BN !!!!!!!!!!!!! Hidup Awang Mahyan!!!
