Baru is Anwar's talking puppet???

PKR state liaison chief Baru Bian is indeed a very nice person. In fact, he might be the cleanest politician in Sarawak with no skeletons hiding in his closet.

He has won the admiration of the rakyat with his persistency in fighting for the NCR land issues which are purportedly being taken illegally by the Barisan Nasional (BN) government.

SNAP - Get real or get lost.

First, SNAP says it is leaving Pakatan Rakyat. Then it says it is joining UBF, another political platform. Then it says it is definitely in Pakatan Rakyat. But then its leadership goes to KL to attend the launching of KITA. Then it announces that it is still within Pakatan Rakyat. Paul Kadang says one thing. Anthony Liman says another. Then Stanley Jugol contradicts both of them. And as for the President, Edwin Dundang? He says nothing. What is going on SNAP?

In the High Court in Sabah and Sarawak at Kuching today, Justice Datuk Linton Albert found in favour of Mohamad Rambli bin Kawi (“the Plaintiff”) to have acquired native customary rights over 65 parcels of land in Salak Land District, Kuching, Sarawak.

The Plaintiff’s legal counsel, Mr. Baru Bian, stated the decision as being very significant as it declares once again that the Malays are also accorded with native customary rights premised upon custom or adat, which is in accordance with the Sarawak Land Code. This is a victory to the natives of Sarawak who have been fighting for the further recognition of their rights over native customary land since the landmark case of Nor Anak Nyawai.

KUCHING: In rare show of solidarity, an opposition leader and a state government minister have called for stern action to be taken against timber companies which pollute rivers and water catchment areas.
 

Sarawak PKR chairman Baru Bian said stern action must be taken against timber companies and loggers who are polluting rivers and water catchment areas that are vital water sources for the natives.

Could Taib’s cousin Norah be the next Sarawak’s Chief Minister?

If the rumours turn out to be true, the next Sarawak Chief Minister could be a woman.

There is intense speculation that Abdul Taib Mahmud has made up his mind to pick as his successor Tanjong Manis MP Norah Abdul Rahman, his cousin and the daughter of Taib’s predecessor Tun Abdul Rahman Yakub. If so, Norah would be both Sarawak’s and Malaysia’s first woman Chief Minister.

Earlier this month, Taib said he was ready to call it a day if the people no longer wanted him. His statement sparked a chain of speculation as to who would succeed him. Among names that were touted were Abang Johari Abang Openg, Abang Openg Abang Sapiee, Adenan Satem, Alfred Jabu Numpang and Awang Tengah Awang Ali.
