KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 9 — Barisan Nasional (BN) is confident it will keep Sarawak regardless whether Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud leads the ruling coalition, its secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said.

Taib is to resign and his UMNO 'friends' are grinning

KUCHING: The recent statement by the State Barisan Nasional (BN) Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud last Tuesday on his willingness to step down if the rakyat wanted him to do so has caught many with surprise.

Although the subject of stepping down per se is not something new to Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud as he did in the past indicated that the day would come when he felt that he had to call it a day, it was the timing of his statement that has caused minor tremors in the country - the state election is just around the corner. 

Many believe that Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud has started to realize that he is no longer enjoying strong supports from the rakyat of Sarawak.
